    Jennings dismisses unbeatable claims

    by Michelle Fortune , 12 April 2012

Leinster flanker Shane Jennings has laughed off Clermont Auvergne coach Vern Cotter's suggestion that the Blues are 'unbeatable' ahead of the Heineken Cup semi-final later this month.

Cotter is preparing his Clermont side to face the reigning European Champions in Bordeaux at the end of the month and ahead of the match the Australian declared Leinster to be 'almost unbeatable' after watching their demolition of Cardiff at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

The mind games may have kicked off but Jennings insists Leinster will not be paying too much attention to it as they focus their attention on the upcoming RaboDirect PRO12 fixtures against Edinburgh and Ulster.

"I don’t think there’s much truth in it. Unbeatable is certainly not a tag we are putting on ourselves because if you look back two or three weeks, we were beaten, and that was here (in the RDS)," Jennings declared.

"We’re certainly not unbeatable. We’re going to work hard this week and try and correct some of the things we did wrong on Saturday. Then we have a massive test up in Belfast next week, so we’ll keep the head down and try to keep improving and if we can do that, we’ll be a tough team to play against."

Leinster may have cruised past Cardiff but they are going to have to be at their best to overcome a Clermont side who produced a brilliant display to see off Saracens.

Jennings was impressed with their performance and he knows the French outfit will prove tough to beat if they play as well as they did at Vicarage Road.

"It was typical Clermont, powerful, just steamrollering teams, and if you give them the opportunity, they’ll do that," says Jennings.

"When Brock James came on, he showed he was just as good as Skrela, and played the positions very well. They wouldn’t rely massively on their lineout. But when they get it, they can just rumble teams, like they did to us in the quarter-final (2010). It’s going to be a very difficult game."
