    Tyrone thump wretched Royals

    by Setanta staff , 24 March 2012

Tyrone made it six wins from six in Allianz Football League Division Two as they tore Meath asunder on Saturday evening.

The final tally of 1-12 to 0-5 in no way reflects how dominant Mickey Harte’s men – who have now won all 11 games they have played in 2012 – were, as Meath lost for the fourth successive time to see their promotion tussle turned into a relegation battle.

Tyrone cold have scored so much more than they did, their only goal and the only one of the game being fisted in very early. The man who converted it was stalwart front man Stephen O’Neill, who beat all challengers to Colm Cavanagh’s pass.

Kyle Coney added on his side’s first point before Meath’s best spell when they hit three points without reply, all from Cian Ward – one a ‘45.

But that was just about as good as it got for Seamus McEnaney’s men at Omagh’s Healy Park. Tyrone would get the next five points as Aidan Cassidy put them two clear and Sean Cavanagh and O’Neill hit two apiece for an interval lead of 1-6 to 0-3.

Coney sent over two frees after the restart, while defenders Cathal McCarron and Peter Harte continued productive seasons at the opposite end of the field from which they are stationed with two more points.

Graham Reilly got one back for Meath but there was no way back for his side, a fact only made even more certain when full back Kevin Reilly picked up a second yellow card.

Tyrone failed to score in the final quarter despite a succession of chances, but their healthy position well clear at the top of the division is now as unassailable as it has always been certain.
