    Cody: The league is important

    by Michelle Fortune , 23 February 2012

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody sees no reason in playing in the Allianz Hurling League if 'are not interested in winning'.

The Cats were defeated in the 2011 final by Dublin and they face a tricky opener to their 2012 campaign with Tipperary first up.

The two-month winter training ban means managers have less than two months to prepare their sides for the league and while Cody admits the Championship is their main concern, he insists his team will be doing all they can to win the Allianz Hurling League.

"The league is a huge part of our year. We will be going out to do as well as we can, and that includes trying to win it. There is no point in playing if you are not interested in winning," Cody told the Kilkenny People.

"We are training for the year ahead, not specifically for the Tipp match or any other match. We are training to build a base of fitness over the year ahead and there is a process you go through for that.

"The level you would want to be at come championship time is different to the level anyone could be at during the league. We will take on the league and plan beyond that for what we want to do."
